Chinese Screens
We offer a beautiful selection of Chinese screen designs, chosen from hundreds if not thousands produced in modern mainland China. Most are four panels, traditional in Chinese room divider styles, perhaps for symmetry, or for extra decoration in the room where the accessory is placed. A Chinese screen is distinct from contemporary Japanese style three panel shoji screens, and creates a different impact in the home décor- the former more decorative, the latter more practical.
We offer a series of Chinese screens with far eastern art images printed on the panels- wood, bamboo matchstick, or stretched canvas fabric on wood frames. Lots of interesting, unique, exotic imagery- Asian beauties or goddesses in elaborate period dress, Tibetan and Kymer Buddha paintings and statues, mountain landscapes, horse drawn carriages, and birds and flowers, to mention a few. We also offer a small selection of lacquered Chinese screens, stunning hand painted reproductions, almost to the brush stroke, of authentic Ming dynasty era art motifs, in black lacquer, or with clear lacquer over fine gold leaf.
We have a larger selection of Chinese screens interior designers and decorators call "silk screens". Hand crafted wood frames, covered by and cleverly hinged with handmade Mulberry paper, hand painted with ink and watercolors in Song dynasty styles and motifs. Classic renderings of simple, serene oriental art - cherry trees, plum blossoms, bamboo groves, pagodas, sky dragons, koi, love birds, flowers and more. The paintings are framed and matted with lovely satin borders in a variety of colors. Some designs involve gold leaf appliqué on the paper, an elegant, lovely variation.
Our collection includes 6 foot tall versions that make great folding floor screens, as well as 36 inch, 24 inch, and 18 inch tall versions, that make equally great short floor screens, but more often, wonderful wall art, with brass hanging hardware included. Though you will find our Chinese screens to be some of our more expensive, they represent exceptional, even extraordinary value for the quality of craftsmanship, and the satisfaction of ownership our customers report.
