Japanese Silk Screens
Generally speaking, new production Japanese Silk Screens are no longer marketed in the United States, although imitation Sumi-e factories in northern mainland China still hand make beautiful, authentic reproductions. We offer here a wide selection of remarkable Chinese and Japanese silk screen reproductions, hand crafted in far-east Asian tradition, for the most part, using the same materials used in Japan, China and Korea for the past one thousand years. From: $129.00Japanese silk screens, as well as Chinese and Korean silk screens, are usually 2, 3, or 4 panels wide, though our collection includes only four panel designs. Four wood frames covered with Mulberry paper form the panels, painted in Song dynasty style ink and watercolor motifs, or in similar Japanese Sumi-e artistic style.
The exposed edges of the wood frames are stained cherry rosewood, then lacquered, and the painting is framed and matted with a lovely, two to three inch wide silk brocade frame. The paper glued over the panels act as hinges, so our reproduction Chinese and Japanese silk screens can be folded, part way to stand upright, or all the way, and can be carefully boxed for storage and shipping. Because of the paper hinges, they are as portable as less decorative designs of Japanese shoji screens.
Our six foot tall by six feet wide Chinese and Japanese silk screen designs are great home décor accessories: both useful and stylish. Put one against a wall to brighten a room, in the middle of a room to divide a space, temporarily block a window, hide an unsightly area, or define a cozy nook for a table and chairs. We offer smaller sizes most often used for wall art, and include easy to attach, geometric brass hardware. We also offer gallery quality mounting hardware.
In addition to our collection of all Mulberry paper designs, we offer a series of stunning variations with gold leaf backgrounds, lacquered, then painted with some classic oriental motif- cherry blossoms, bamboo trees, love birds, peonies, cranes, horses, tigers, pagodas, and others, finely rendered in ink, or ink and watercolors. Large, beautiful, hand crafted, hand painted Asian style folk art- heirloom quality wall art for less than the cost of a comparably sized art print. [ Go to Top ]
